About Us

We inspire young people and expand their learning through the arts.

Young Audiences of Oregon was founded in 1958 as a local chapter of the nation’s largest arts-in-education organization. In 1989, the Portland-based organization merged with a smaller chapter in Vancouver to become Young Audiences of Oregon & SW Washington. We have steadily grown in scope and programming, evolving from presenting only classical music performances in our early years to currently offering a full range of educational arts programming in multiple disciplines and cultures—the only arts organization in the region to do so.

In school programs:

The core of the work we do is connecting a roster of talented teaching artists with schools for artist residencies, workshops and performances. These programs can be designed to fit the specific needs of a school.

Run for the Arts:

Many people know Young Audiences for our jog-a-thon style arts fundraiser Run for the Arts. Young Audiences coordinates with schools to facilitate these fundraisers so that schools can have a resource for art materials, field trips or programs.

Special programs: In addition to our in school programs, Young Audiences has had the great opportunity to work with some great artists, arts organizations and community members.

We are currently working with local professional sound engineers to run Live SET (a sound engineering class for high school teens). We have been working with a local composer and other music business professionals for a year long collaboration with Camas High School.
